Today, Penfolds farms some of the finest vineyards across South Australia’s most famous wine regions - familiar names like the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley, and Coonawarra. The climate in this part of the country is very hot and dry at sea level but vineyards at altitude, or those close to the coast, enjoy a welcome cooling effect during the summer. 

The main red grape varieties Penfolds focuses on are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mataro (Mourvèdre), while the main white ones are Chardonnay and Riesling. 

Peter Gago joined the business in 1989 and has been Penfolds’ Chief Winemaker since 2002, making him only the fourth ever person to hold the role. He leads a dedicated team of winemakers, who between them have over 150 years of experience at the winery. Together they honour the history of this iconic Australian brand while pushing boundaries and creating exciting wines and blends.

The Penfolds collection, led by the iconic Grange, focuses on using the best grapes from the best regions. Known for the consistency and quality of its ‘house style’, it is little surprise that Penfolds has garnered a devoted fanbase across the world.
